After writing the previous predictive review - The Rum Diary - that covered both the novel and the supposedly epic film, I received word that unfortunately, the movie sucks. I don’t know whether this is one of my favourite books because it’s by one of my favourite authors, or because it’s about drinking, violence, lust and general tom-foolery in the Caribbean circa 1950’s… OR because I read it while I was in THE ACTUAL Caribbean doing the same.
